The 2007 Corwin Hansch Award of the Cheminformatics and QSAR Society has been
presented to
Andrew L. Hopkins, DPhil FRSC, of Pfizer, Sandwich, UK, at the Gordon
Conference on Computer-Aided Drug Design in Tilton, NH on August 2, 2007. This award recognizes the
work of a young investigator in cheminformatics, QSAR, and modeling with the expectation that
they will continue to advance the field for many years to come.
Dr. Hopkins
was chosen from a field of very able researchers.
Dr. Hopkins is an internationally recognized innovator and strategic thinker
in knowledge-based drug discovery. He has consistently conceived, championed
and managed the implementation of industry-leading informatics and strategic
solutions. His interests involve developing systems and strategies for
translational research, turning basic knowledge to actionable medical
hypotheses. With over 12 years in pharmaceutical research, his broad
experience covers: chemogenomics, indications discovery, knowledge
discovery, structural biology, drug design, and discovery strategy.
Dr. Hopkins has authored or co-authored 25 papers, 5 book chapters, and 6 patents covering drug design, data mining,
protein engineering, and new indications for drugs. Four papers have been
cited over 100 times, and two were marked as "hot papers" by the Thomson ISI
Science Citation Index.
Dr. Hopkins is a Fellow of
the Royal Society of Chemistry, and a member of the Editorial Boards of the
journals Chemical Biology & Drug Discovery and Expert Opinion in Drug
